What we believe
The Bible
We believe that the Bible is God's Word — true, trustworthy, and the final authority for what we believe and teach. Through Scripture, God reveals His love, His will, and His plan of salvation for all people.
"All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness."
God
We believe in one God in three Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. God is the Creator of all things, the source of all life, and the One who desires a relationship with every person.
"Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit."
Jesus Christ
At the centre of our faith is Jesus Christ, the Son of God. We believe that Jesus became fully human, lived a perfect life, died on the cross for our sins, and rose again from the dead. Through Him, we are forgiven, restored, and given eternal life — not because of anything we have done, but because of His grace.
"For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins… that He was buried, that He was raised on the third day."
Salvation by grace
We believe that we are saved by God's grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone. This means that we cannot earn God's love or forgiveness. Instead, God freely gives these gifts to us because of what Jesus has done.
"For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God."
Faith and life
Faith is trusting in God's promises. This faith is created and strengthened by the Holy Spirit through God's Word and the Sacraments. As Christians, we seek to live lives shaped by God's love — serving our neighbours, growing in faith, and reflecting Christ in our daily lives.
"So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ."
The Sacraments
We believe that God gives us tangible gifts of His grace in Baptism and Holy Communion. In Baptism, God makes us His children and gives us new life. In Holy Communion, we receive the true body and blood of Jesus for the forgiveness of sins, strengthening our faith and unity with Him and one another.
"Whoever feeds on My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day."
The Church
We believe the Church is the community of all believers in Christ. At St. Luke's, this means gathering regularly for worship, hearing God's Word, receiving His gifts, and encouraging one another in faith and life.
"And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together…"
Our confession
As a confessional Lutheran church, we hold to the teachings of the Lutheran Confessions because they faithfully summarize what the Bible teaches. These writings help guide our doctrine and practice, keeping us rooted in the truth of God's Word.
